Rudi Guiliani is the president’s personal attorney. He is not an employee of the federal government and, as Donald Trump’s private attorney, he has no legal right to meet with foreign leaders on behalf of the federal government or the president of the United States, nor any right to deliver or bring back messages to or from foreign leaders.
This is a prima fascia violation of the Logan Act. If Giuliani decided to make these trips to Ukraine on his own, he is alone in violating the Logan Act. If Donald Trump SENT him on these errands, they are both guilty of violating the Logan act…and that IS an impeachable offense.
I know what you’re thinking. Of course, the president has the right to send his wife, his daughter, his sons in law, or anyone else he chooses to meet with anyone he chooses. As the CEO of Trump Enterprises, he has that right. As the president of the United States, he does not have that right.
